Puppy News

I’m getting yet another Cavalier King Charles Spaniel puppy!!  The breeder where I got Charlie has a litter due this week out of the same dad as Charlie; so I’m going to get a male pup from this litter.   :D   I love having all boys here.

I’m not planning on breeding – just having them as pets.   I really think male dogs make awesome pets.  Not that females can’t, or don’t, but the boys seem to make especially good pets.   It’s true what they say; “the girls will love you, the boys will be in-love with you”.  I’ve definitely found this to be true.  And Cavaliers as pets – are the ultimate companion dog.  Seriously – I love this breed.

The Mitral Valve Heart Issue

Please, don’t let the heart issues scare you away from this lovely breed.  Yes, the heart issues are real; virtually 100% of all the lines of Cavalier have mitral valve disease in them.   And some statistics say that by age 10, 100% of all Cavaliers will have some degree of heart murmur present.  That does not necessarily mean they will be infirmed or ailing, but you do need to be aware, and on top of this so you can get the medical care they need, should (or when) this occurs.

That said, you can perhaps delay, or maybe even avoid, or greatly delay, the mitral valve issue by finding a responsible breeder who does heart testing on their dogs and breeds only dogs from tested lines.  This is if you are wanting to try and avoid the heart issue and help better the breed.

If you just want a Cavalier to love, you can go the route of rescue.  You won’t get any guarantees on their heart, but you can be guaranteed lots of love in return for saving a life and giving them a forever home.   Well worth it. :)

Whether via responsible breeder, or rescue, bringing a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel into your family is a worthwhile adventure.
